A10 to provide Thunder™ CGN (Carrier-Grade Networking) to help
support thousands of global gamers at North America’s largest LAN (local
area network) competition
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
A10
Networks (NYSE:ATEN), a Secure Application Services™ company, will
help connect thousands of gamers at QuakeCon
2017 by providing its A10
Thunder CGN (Carrier-Grade Networking) to ensure availability and
continuity for all players. QuakeCon, an annual video game competition,
is North America’s largest BYOC (bring-your-own-computer) LAN party,
taking place Aug. 24 to 27 in Dallas, Texas.
A10 Networks is a leader in high-performing solutions that power and
secure some of the world’s largest gaming companies in the world, with
its portfolio of CGN, Threat
Protection System (TPS) and ADC
solutions helping accelerate and protect three of the four top
gaming companies in the United States. In addition to supporting
QuakeCon, A10’s Thunder CGN helps cloud providers, service providers,
and large enterprises manage IPv4 and IPv6 translation between various
devices and networks. Hundreds of the world’s top service providers rely
on Thunder CGN to preserve existing IPv4 infrastructure investments as
well as manage IPv6 migration.
Massively multiplayer online gaming (MMOG) networks and application
infrastructures present some of the world’s most challenging
environments to architect, protect and operate at scale. Gaming is
unique in the scale of bi-directional, real-time data path and its
sensitivity to latency, packet loss, scale of player access and
geo-diversity of users. The gaming industry is also a frequent target of
large-scale DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks, which must be
stopped to ensure uninterrupted service availability.
“The infrastructure that we build out every year for QuakeCon is a
mammoth undertaking that can really put networking hardware to the
test,” said Travis “Ash” Bradshaw, executive director for QuakeCon 2017.
“Not only do our discerning attendees have demanding performance needs,
but there’s also the setup and configuration requirements of building
the QuakeCon network from scratch in just a few days. The CGN technology
from A10 Networks fills an essential role in the success of that
infrastructure right at the edge, supporting workloads from game
patching to critical outbound streaming all at the same time.”
“As the premier provider of high-performance networking and security
solutions for the online gaming industry, A10 Networks is excited to
partner with QuakeCon to help ensure thousands of gamers experience
lightning-fast, uninterrupted game play,” said Rob Justice, A10’s
director of systems engineering. “A massive network-based gaming event
like QuakeCon demands infrastructure that delivers speed, reliability,
security and scale, which is why QuakeCon trusts A10. With A10 Thunder
CGN, it’s 'game on’ at QuakeCon.”
A10’s Thunder CGN line is the most powerful carrier-grade networking
solution, with an industry-leading performance of 300 Gbps and 512
million concurrent sessions in a single appliance. A10 Thunder CGN also
offers up to two and a half times the performance of competing solutions
with less than half the data center footprint.
